3D Rendering: What is it and Why is it Important?

What does interior design have to do with 3D rendering? If you’ve ever seen shows like Property Brothers on HGTV you have seen this feature they offer homeowners: a unique walk-through of what their house will look like after a remodel before any of the work is done.

Technology is changing our lives at a rapid pace and in most ways it’s for the better.

Computer technology has entered the design world as well as every other corner of our lives and is helping us communicate our vision as designers with our clients in new and better ways.  For those of you who don’t know, “3D rendering is a creative process that is similar to photography or cinematography, because you are lighting and staging scenes and producing images. Unlike regular photography, however, the scenes being photographed are imaginary. So many clients hire a designer because they express a concern about being able to “see” how the completed space will come together in the end.  In a long-term and extensive remodel or build project this service can be invaluable to them as a tool to facilitate decision making.

This process allows homeowners a virtual walkthrough so they know what to expect from their remodel.   It can help the clients get a sense of how the space will feel and function for them before it is even built.

My go-to photographer, Don Hebert, did an after walkthrough of a home I was working on called Calypso Delight. Here is the 3D rendering of the “before” project via a virtual walk through of the design concept model. Click here for a beautiful photographic walkthrough of the “after” project.

When you look through my portfolio, Don Hebert, a photographer I really enjoy partnering with for various client projects, took the gorgeous photos. Keep an eye out for his stunning images on my Facebook page, too!

Here is more information about Don:

A native of Muskegon, Michigan, Don Hebert began his Caribbean sojourn in 1980 as a high school mathematics teacher in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. As the lure of the lens became too great to resist, he graduated his passion for photography from hobby to full-time profession in 1983. Don’s portfolio of work and experience span the Caribbean and numerous countries throughout the world. His images of the tropics have graced the covers and pages of Travel & Leisure, Caribbean Travel and Life, National Geographic, Islands, American Airlines magazine, Places to Explore, Discover St. Thomas-St. John and others.

If you are interested in a 3D rendering of your home project, contact me today to get the process started! A virtual tour of your new home will help with decision making by providing a chance for you to see everything in place before the project is final.
