As technology in stone crafting marches forward, water jet cut mosaics are becoming more accessible and the variety of designs and materials is expanding rapidly. Suppliers like New Ravena offer backsplashes that are made to order and truly works of art. Other vendors, like Marble Systems, offer beautiful looks with less lead time and cost.
What Should Homeowners Expect?
Homeowners should consider how to finish the edges and be sure to get the right pieces to finish it off. Don’t skimp on professional labor; detailed work that is prominently placed in your home should be done with the utmost care by a tile setter with plenty of experience!
Labor rates vary widely across the country and in the Caribbean; I expect to pay about $65 per hour for an experienced installer. When it comes to materials, it’s possible to find something beautiful for $30 per square foot, but the truly custom designs may run more than $200 per square foot, so shop carefully! Custom designers are worth it though; buy what you love and don’t be afraid to wait! You will be looking at it and enjoying it for many years.
